STORY QUILT MURAL FOR TEENS (6th-10th)

Quilt-making has a rich history in America. It’s an art form that can teach basic math & art skills, record history, recycle materials, and encourage cooperation within a group. Students will learn a brief history of quilts in America. Particular emphasis will be on the work of the artist and author Faith Ringgold and her paintings/story quilts. Ms Ringgold surrounds her fanciful narrative paintings with a quilted fabric border, creating visual art that tells a story in color, texture and pattern. We will then explore our own stories and local history and work together to paint a story quilt mural approximately 8’x10’.
