If you've never tried LEAP's Educational Camps before, now is the time!

Each child who registers for LEAP Pool Programs (swim camps, swim lessons, or jr. guard) can also sign up for 1 FREE educational (non-pool) camp this summer! Offer applies to any child who has never taken a LEAP Educational Program before & includes one-day workshops, as well as week-long & multi-week classes. Ages 2-4

 

Garden Tots • June 1-July 22  (Mondays & Wednesdays, 10am-12pm)

Children ages 2-4 join caregiver Patty Wells twice a week for gardening, art, cooking, stories, and playing in the beautiful enclosed garden at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Old Bisbee. Please send a change of clothes with your child, along with a hat, water bottle, and sunscreen.

Campers receive extra supervision and will be assessed for skill level so that everyone can be safe and have fun. Snacks provided. Children attending other LEAP classes at Central School Project will walk with adult supervision to the pool at 3pm. Children may also join us at the pool - but they must be signed in by their parent/guardian, fill out emergency information forms & either pay at the pool or provide a receipt of online payment before being allowed to join the camp.  INSTRUCTORS: LEAP Lifeguards & Pool Staff  •  LOCATION: Bisbee Pool  •  $15/week

 

Mini-Maker Camps • Weeks 1 & 4-8 (Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, 9am-10:30am)

Mini Makers work at their own pace to complete engineering & art projects designed to teach problem-solving using science, technology, engineering, arts & math (STEAM). During weeks 5-8, we will also do Math Games as part of Maker Camp from 9-9:30am.

Greenway Garden & Murals Camp • Weeks 2 & 3 (Monday-Friday, 9am-12pm)

This fun camp at Greenway’s School Garden will integrate mural painting, gardening, games, song & dance! Students will need their own transportation to & from Greenway Elementary School each day. (Parent carpools back to Central School Project after class can be arranged.)

Cheer & Dance Camp • Week 3 (Monday-Friday, 2-3pm)

A week of fun for boys & girls! Learn to Cheer like our very own Bisbee Puma Cheerleaders. Experience the use of poms and how new elements are created within a dance routine. Learn the proper jumps and arm motions to become Bisbee's next top Cheerleader!

French Camp • Week 4 (Monday-Thursday, 10:45am-12:15pm)

Kids will learn to understand and use simple instructions, basic phrases, and vocabulary. Students are encouraged to interact in French during the class through numerous activities including stories, mini-projects, songs and educational games.

Field Trip to Rocking R Equine Learning Center • Week 4 (Friday, 9am-12pm)

Learn to handle the gentle horses and minis at Rocking R Ranch in activities such as grooming, being in the ring with the horse, feeding, or guiding the horse through an obstacle course. There is no riding allowed. Students will need their own transportation to & from Tombstone or make arrangements to participate in parent carpools from Central School Project.

AZ Native Animals Workshop • Week 5 (Friday, 10:45am-12:15pm)

Get up close to the various arthropod and reptile species that grace our deserts with this live animal workshop. No venomous reptiles or arthropods will be handled, but children are invited to handle many of the other animals to raise conservation awareness.

Tinkering • WEEK 5 (Monday-Thursday, 10:45am-12:15pm)

Learn how every day appliances work and become more comfortable with hand tools through the disassembly of small appliances such as blenders, DVD players, phones, and toys. Then, we’ll attempt to put them back together, or combine them to create crazy creations!

Dance Camp • WEEK 6 (Monday-Friday, 10:45am-12:15pm)

Children will build physical coordination & confidence in this creative dance camp. They will create their own imaginative movement sequences and dance phrases, while being introduced to the principles and foundations of contemporary dance technique.

Costume Making • WEEK 6 (Monday-Friday, 2-3pm)

Join local fashion designer, Jessi Jurek, and make costumes for the dances you create in Dance Camp earlier in the day!

Create a town, draw a parade, color Bisbee. Guided chalk adventures. Get ready to make some color on the ground. Plan to get messy.

In this five day camp kids will learn different techniques for making & decorating cupcakes. They will eat some of course… and the rest will be for the LEAP Extravaganza Celebration on Friday, July 24 to help raise money and awareness for LEAP’s cooking classes in the Fall.

An engineering camp, for 9-12 year olds, that incorporates the principles of designing, building, and testing the integrity of a bridge structure. Participants will build a bridge and weight test it at the end of the program or build a boat and test it.

3-D Mania ………………..………………………………………………………………………………………..…...Week 5 (Monday-Friday, 9-10:30am)

Explore Polyhedra and other solids using nets (patterns used to fold up into prisms, cones, etc...). We’ll measure dimensions and calculate surface area from the measurements for each solid. Then we will decorate each solid, fold them up, and make mobiles that balance! Join the Carrie Gustavson, Director of the Bisbee Mining & Historical Museum, to work as a group to create your own museum! We’ll give a name. We’ll give it a purpose. We’ll build its collections and make our own exhibit! Then we’ll invite our friends and family to come and see just how much fun it is to build a museum exhibit using words and objects together to make a visual story.

Learn the basics of acting: stage presence, how to build a character, how to perform for an audience, staying in character, memorizing lines, practicing improvisation, and much more. Students will learn in a nurturing environment with a focus on fun.

Learn simple chords, strums, and songs on ukulele or guitar. Bring your own instrument, or borrow one of LEAP’s cute little blue ukuleles!

A choreography-based class with an emphasis on creating and performing; introduction to technique through exercises and improvisation; all levels. Students will create & perform a piece for the LEAP Extravaganza at the end of the summer on July 24th.

In Reader's Theater, students read-aloud scripts they’ve adapted themselves from short stories. Reading parts are divided among the readers. No memorization, costumes, or props are used. The focus is on reading the text with expressive voices and gestures.

This four-week book club will read & discuss age-appropriate historical fiction books & stories that focus on life in the Middle Ages. Read out loud and share tales about heroes and villains, monsters and magicians, knights and minstrels, beggars and thieves.

Science Experiments with Gus & Nico………………..............................................WEEKS 1-8 (Thursdays, 2-3pm)

Electricity, explosions, magical physics and more controlled mayhem than you'll experience in any other science class! This course will explain, test, and bask in the glory of scientific and physical properties by conducting ludicrous experiments. Nico Hamilton and Gus Fredrickson, two aspiring swashbucklers, currently reside in Bisbee, AZ. When they are not attending high school, the duo can be found battling space pirates in the far reaches of the Galaxy.

Intro. to Media w/ KBRP’s Youth Media Project………………................WEEKS 1-8 (Fridays, 2-3pm)

‘Intro. To Media’ provides instruction in media literacy and production skills, which will prepare the student for advanced instruction through this partnership between LEAP and KBRP’s Youth Media Project. Students will learn how to organize, produce, and edit media content in KBRP’s Nancy Davies Youth Media Studio and produce content that will be used both on-air and online for KBRP.

LoST Games stands for League of Story Tellers, a youth table-top role-playing game group. In addition to being really fun, roleplaying games encourage positive social interaction, storytelling, and develop math skills.

Learn acting skills from a working actor who has performed on stage, on television, and in commercials. Nikki owns an acting company in Sierra Vista where she teaches classes and has been trained in the Stanislavski Method of acting as well as various acting schools focusing on film and commercial work. Intro. to Computer Hardware………………………………….…………………………WEEKS 1-8 (Tuesdays, 6pm-7:30pm)

Each class will focus on a different component of a desktop computer. The lessons will consist of first a definition for the component and then it's purpose and place inside the computer. Beginning French (All ages)……………………………………..………………………………WEEKS 1-8 (Wednesdays, 6pm-7:30pm)

Learn to understand and use simple instructions, basic phrases, and vocabulary. Students are encouraged to interact in French during the class through numerous activities including literature, hands-on-projects, and educational games.

Intro. to Game Design…………………………………………………….………………………WEEKS 1-8 (Thursdays, 6pm-7:30pm)

Classes will focus on game design and will feature the students developing a simple game that will be peer tested as a final. LoST Games (Youth Role-Playing Game Group)……………………………….……………………Ongoing (Saturdays, 2:30-6:30pm)

LoST Games stands for League of Story Tellers, a youth table-top role-playing game group. In addition to being really fun, roleplaying games encourage positive social interaction, storytelling, and develop math skills.
