Crochet and Knit Basics » Tues, June 4, 11, 18, 25 (5:30-7:30 pm)
Young and young at heart crafters will be introduced to the world of working with yarns and needles in this introductory class for kids & adults who want to learn to knit and crochet. Gardening for Change » Mon, July 1, 8, 15, 22 (5:30-7:30 pm)
Community service based garden projects including creating and installing a vertical garden for the Greenway Youth Garden; making seed bombs; local park beautification project; using upcycled/recycled materials for garden projects. This course will introduce families to fun, collaborative projects and endeavors that benefit our community and the planet. Children birth to 6 are welcome with an adult. Singing Camp: Hummingbirds » Session I: June 3-6 (9-11am) / Session II: July 8-11 (9-11am)
Young children will have fun learning new songs while being introduced to basic musical concepts such as: beat, pattern, pitch, dynamics, tempo, and melody. We will develop listening skills while moving to the music, learn to express ourselves with our singing voices, and play games and read stories to reinforce musical concepts. 3 year olds also welcome with a caregiver.

Basic Botany » July 1-3 (8:30am-12pm)
In this class 4-6 yr olds will learn about the parts of plants and their function. We will examine, through a variety of experiments, how the systems of plants function separately and together. The main focus will be on understanding the defining characteristics of each part and exploring how they help the plant to survive and thrive. Swim Camp » June 3-28 (M-F, 3:30-5pm)
This afternoon camp will provide your children with entrance and extra supervision while enjoying our local swimming pool. Swimmers will be assessed for skill level so that everyone can be safe and have fun. Kids will be provided with a snack. Kids can be dropped off at the pool. We will also meet the Boys and Girls Club bus and accompany kids to the pool if they would like to join our program after their day at the Club. An introduction to basic watercolor techniques. The students will use real watercolors, real watercolor brushes, and learn basic painting and color techniques. Watercolor II » June 10-13 (8-10am)
Continuation of the watercolor class by teaching masking, and extending the watercolor techniques. Taking the course Introduction to Watercolor first is not necessary. Upcycle/Recycle » June 24-27 (8-10am)
Learn to make flowers out of newspapers and magazines. Rosettes out of denim and other recycled fabrics for hairpieces, jewelry, or wreaths. We would also make bird clips and magnets out of paper and clothespins.

Creating Characters and Stories Through Art » July 22-25 (10am-12pm)

Painting with Color & Composition » July 10–11 (8:30am-12pm)
This introduction to painting with acrylics will open students’ eyes to the colors and shapes around them and will teach them basic picture composition. Students will be shown what goes into designing the subject for a painting and will then be allowed to let their imaginations soar as they paint their own canvas. Painting lessons will utilize basic math skills. Acrylic paints are non-toxic and water based. Students should wear clothes that might get paint on them. Math Challenges and Character Building » July 1-3 (8:30am-12pm)
This course will challenge students to work through difficult math problems together. Students will work together in groups, using simple physical models (paper, toothpicks, etc.) to solve challenging problems by applying positive life skills such as grit, optimism, and curiosity. Together, we will read a book by Nevil Shute called Trustee from the Toolroom, about the adventures of a man who demonstrates such qualities. As a class, we will work to develop these traits to help students succeed in school and in life: grit, self-control, zest, social intelligence, gratitude, optimism, and curiosity. Bridges and Boats (Introduction to Engineering) » June 3-6 (12-3:30pm)
An engineering camp, for 9-12 year olds, that incorporates the principles of designing, building, and testing the integrity of a bridge structure. This course will introduce principles to new students and take these principles one-step and farther for returning students. Building Design & Models (Introduction to Architecture) » June 17-21 (8:30am-11am)
This course introduces 11-14 year olds to elementary concepts of architecture, and shows how the use of mathematics can be fun. Through a step-by-step development of a floor plan, students will build a scale model of a building similar to one used by architects. The exercise will utilize basic math and measurement skills required in designing and constructing scale models, and will delve into basic engineering concepts involved in home and building construction.
